The DAX Index is Germany's main stock market index. It tracks the performance of 30 German blue-chip companies within the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and is widely used as an indicator of the German equity market.

The DAX index was established in 1987 with a benchmark index value of 1,000 points. The index broke the 12,000-point mark for the first time in 2015. The composition of the index is subject to regular review and companies other than the largest 45 can be removed from it.

Unlike most indices, the DAX index uses the next day's futures price update.
