Investors should keep an eye on the relevant stock market quotes for their holdings. The financial media usually publish daily market reports that provide stock price movements, market reactions to events of the day, and sometimes market rumors.

The stock market is designed to allow investors to buy and sell existing shares and to allow companies to raise money by issuing new shares.
Well-known stock markets include new York Stock Exchange (NYSE)(The shares traded include Boeing, Ford and Citigroup banking groups), london Stock Exchange (LSE)(You can buy and sell shares of BP, HSBC and Unilever) and Frankfurt (most of the shares traded are German industrial giants, including Daimler, BMW and Thyssen Krupp).
In addition to the rules and standards of exchanges for individuals or members of companies, there are regulations relating to shares traded in the market ("listing standards"). Regulations may limit price increases or decreases during a trading session, stabilizing the market by suspending trading. In most cases, the exchange itself guarantees the debts of any defaulting member in relation to other members or customers.
