What is FTSE?

The FTSE is short for the Financial Times (FTSE) 100 stock index and is london Stock Exchange (LSE) the average stock price of the 100 largest and most actively traded companies in the company. The index was established in December 1983 with a benchmark index of 1000.

The share price index contains the value of the shares of the UK's largest listed companies. It is calculated in real time when the stock market opens and is continuously updated to reflect changes during each trading day. The closing price is the price used as a reference point. Companies included in the index are reviewed quarterly and are sometimes referred to as blue-chip companies.
